Scholarship Regulations

The House of Maheja

Effective Date: October 2026

1. Purpose and Scope

Scholarships may be granted for any paid programme or experience of The House of Maheja that has been designated by the Foundation as eligible for scholarships. No scholarship application is required for programmes and experiences that are already offered free of charge.

A scholarship means financial support in the form of a partial or full waiver of the participation fee; it is not a cash payment to the applicant. Scholarship funds remain assets of the Foundation and are used exclusively to finance the approved programme and the costs associated with reduced-fee or free participation. Programme costs may include reasonable and duly approved compensation for teaching, facilitation, preparation, administration and other services required to deliver the programme.

2. Decision-Making Authority

Scholarship applications are generally assessed by Mahima and Kai. The Foundation Board may delegate the decision-making authority in whole or in part to other suitable, unconflicted persons or to a body established for this purpose.

The assessment takes into account financial need, alignment with the purpose and values of The House of Maheja, the likelihood of active participation, and the applicant’s potential to carry the impact forward within their family, community, professional, educational or other personal environment.

If one of the decision-makers has a material personal, professional or financial conflict of interest in relation to an applicant, that person shall recuse themselves and an unconflicted person appointed by the Foundation Board shall participate in the decision. This decision-making arrangement operates within the Foundation’s final governance and tax-exemption structure.

3. Eligibility

The applicant meets the published eligibility requirements of the relevant programme and cannot reasonably pay the standard participation fee from available household means after necessary living expenses have been covered. Clients, donors or friends are not given preferential treatment.

4. Information and Assessment

Applicants provide a short and confidential self-declaration explaining why the standard participation fee represents a significant financial barrier for them and whether they are applying for a 50% or 100% scholarship. The Foundation may request reasonable additional information where necessary to assess the application. Detailed financial documents or supporting evidence are not routinely required.

5. Personal Video

As a general rule, a personal video from the applicant must be submitted with the application.

6. Scope of the Scholarship

Scholarships may cover 50% or 100% of the standard participation fee. The level of scholarship granted is determined by the applicant’s financial circumstances and the Foundation’s assessment of the application.

7. Duration and Participation Requirements

A scholarship is granted on the condition of active and committed participation throughout the programme or experience. Unless otherwise specified for the relevant programme, scholarship recipients are expected to attend all scheduled live sessions, arrive on time and be prepared to participate fully, keep their camera switched on during online live sessions where this is part of the programme format, complete agreed exercises, reflection assignments or other programme activities, and participate meaningfully at least once per week where a group forum or community area forms part of the programme.

If a scholarship recipient knows that they will be unable to attend a required session or fulfil another participation obligation, they are responsible for informing The House of Maheja in advance and as early as reasonably possible. In the event of an unforeseen emergency or exceptional circumstance where prior notice is not possible, contact must be made as soon as reasonably possible. Responsibility for this communication rests with the scholarship recipient; The House of Maheja is not responsible for following up on unexplained absences.

If these participation and communication obligations are not met, the scholarship will be withdrawn for the remaining part of the programme or experience. The Foundation may take genuine exceptional circumstances into account as appropriate. Withdrawal does not generally create a retroactive obligation to repay scholarship benefits already received.

The scholarship applies exclusively to the specific programme or experience for which it was approved and is not automatically transferred to another programme or experience. A new scholarship application is required for each additional programme or experience.

8. Budget & Available Funds

No fixed annual CHF amount is established in these Scholarship Regulations. Scholarships are granted within the financial resources available. The Foundation Board determines and approves the scholarship budget annually on the basis of the Foundation’s available financial resources. Each award remains subject to the eligibility criteria and a documented approval process.

9. Prioritisation

If the number of eligible applications exceeds the available scholarship funds, preference is given to applicants with demonstrated financial need who show strong alignment with the purpose of the programme and credibly explain that they are willing and able to multiply the impact by applying and sharing what they learn within their family, community, workplace, educational environment or another sphere of personal influence.

Where applicants are otherwise equally suitable, greater financial need may be considered first, followed by the order in which applications were received. A transparent waiting list shall be maintained.

10. Repayment

There is no mandatory repayment, service obligation or fundraising obligation. Any later donation is entirely voluntary and has no effect on future scholarship eligibility.

11. Documentation & Review

Applications, reasons for decisions, and the amount and duration of scholarships are documented confidentially. Only aggregated information relating to access is published. Reconsideration by an unconflicted person is made available. The Scholarship Regulations are reviewed annually. Legal requirements concerning retention and data protection are determined in consultation with legal advisers.

12. Multipliers & Extending the Impact

Particularly during the Foundation’s development phase, the assessment and prioritisation of suitable scholarship applications may take into account the extent to which the applicant has the potential and willingness to carry the impact of the programme beyond their own participation. This may occur in particular within their family, community, professional, educational or other personal environment.

Multiplier potential is an important assessment and prioritisation criterion, but it is not a mandatory requirement for receiving a scholarship. Financial need and suitability for the relevant programme remain essential criteria.
